Tasting Asparagus
by
Brooklyn Bickel
(age 14)
Molly watched, her eyes as big as the dinner plate in front of her. Dad scooped a huge spoonful of asparagus and put it on her plate. She scrunched her eyebrows and stuck out her tongue. It looked weird. She lifted her fork and stabbed the asparagus. Swallowing down a large lump in her throat, Molly, sluggishly lifted the fork to her mouth. She took a bite. Garlic butter squirted into her mouth as she chewed. The tops were salty and chewy. The stalks were hard and sweet. A small smile slowly spread across her face. It wasn't bad! But it needed a little smidgen of salt.
