Pre-Pointe Shoes

Pre-Pointe Shoes
by
Zachoia Cooper
(age 16)

It seems like such a little thing
To rise up on the toes and push.
Not such a cinch, that little spring-
It seems like such a little thing.
A rose, petaled with satin bling
Grows from a dogged, thorny bush.
It seems like such a little thing
To rise up on the toes and push.

To fold these shoes into half-moons
The toes propel to make them rise.
Hard work will make them stronger soon
To fold these shoes into half-moons.
If roses are to grow, then prune.
Practice is how a young bird flies.
To fold these shoes into half-moons
The toes propel to make then rise.
